Being the best you

Have you ever got to the end of the day and gone - “oh I wish I could do that again” or “man I stuffed up big time there…”? You are not alone. Now just to be clear: this is not an invitation for you to wallow in self pity or be hard on yourself. Actually it’s an invitation to work out what makes you tick, what helps bring out the best in you. Not best as in being #1 in a certain thing, being on the gold medal podium. No, I’m talking about the absolute best version of you. The you that no-one else can ever be. The most amazing you that fills your heart so you can feel it soaring. The you that lights up what ever space you are in. The you that goes, yes, this is what rocks my socks. This is what I came here for.

Finding yourself and being the best version of you is an amazing gift to yourself (and if you can give me the liberty of saying so) and the world. When you become the best you, you shine, you thrive and you become a beacon to encourage others to become the best version of them.

So what are you here to do and how do you know if you are being the best version of you? Yesterday I watched a replay of a motivational speech. It was encouraging people to be the best, to be #1 (and the speaker went on to show how he was the #1 - best in the world). Yet as I watched it, something in me cringed and went “NO!!!!” (with exclamation marks). You see, he was wanting you to be the best compared to others, to be better than everyone else at what ever you do.

It seemed he was actively encouraging you to compete with others and judge yourself against them. I see competition differently. The saying “it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game” springs to mind, but no - its not even that. You can compare yourself with others if you like and want to be better than them, but what if they are on a different journey to you? What if you become the best someone else and along the way forget who you are?

I believe that being the best version of yourself involves recognising the absolute divine Love and Light within you and shining that to the world. No you don’t need to become a movie star or famous to do this. As you shine with love within your family, your workplace, with anyone you meet, you change your world. The ripple effects from this are enormous. Just think of the last time you were out walking and someone sent a loving smile to you. Remember how that felt - your face muscles most likely started smiling back automatically. How did you feel? What did you do differently as a result? Maybe your heart swelled and you stood taller and felt happiness spread around you. Perhaps you were kinder to others.

Whether you consciously know it or not, you are here on a journey of love. Love created you, supports you and when you learn to recognise this and open yourself to all that is available to you, you recognise how phenomenal life can be.

One thing that can stop you being the most loving version of yourself is jealousy. If you are attempting to be the “best” because you are jealous of someone, your motivation changes and most likely blocks you. It makes it harder to see the Truth, to create what you truely want and to witness it come into reality. (And in the process you are inadvertently attempting to stop them being the best version of them.) This may seem a hefty comment coming from a society that perpetuates a black and white reality of winners or losers. You win the game or you lose it. You win the election or lose it. But that black and white duality is a bit limited - so why limit yourself?

If you consciously set about walking your life with love and to become the “best” version of you, you may find yourself being “gently” guided to recognise how and where your life has moved away from Love. You might find it surprising how many aspects of you (as in this life, your genetics, the collective you are part of) have forgotten how to connect to and come from Love.

Sometimes those “gentle” guides can feel like a monumental block. If you can approach them with gratitude you can realise you’re being gifted an opportunity to expand more deeply into a loving space. And what a space it is - deeper more expansive love, joy, freedom, happiness and abundance.

As glitches in your life spring up, remember to breathe (slow deep and conscious breathes help your nervous system relax and help you be able to recognise things from a more loving perspective).  Remind yourself that things may be different than you currently perceive.  Meditate and ask to be shown a bigger perspective.  Ask what is being reflected back for you to see and transform.  Connect to Creator of All That Is (unconditional love) and invite support to assist you.  And mostly - find something you love and do it!  You are so worthy of a life you enjoy.  Go out and create it.  Only you can create the most amazing loving version of you.
