Invest in yourself and dream big

Uncategorized Jan 05, 2020

We might be in the beginning of a new year and new decade, with lots of encouragement to set intentions and dream big.   In reality you can do this anytime.

You might be someone who actively chooses to avoid setting intentions as they seem too cliche, contrived. You might have read the research that shows many people get to the end of January having "broken" their resolutions,  confining them to the basket of self talk like “I didn’t really want that” or “ I can never finish anything” or “I’m useless”.   Perhaps underneath that is a deeper, possibly unconscious, belief that you are not able to set deep goals, or its too scary, or your not worthy.

There’s a saying: If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you.

I remember many years ago someone asking me what I wanted.   Quite honestly I didn’t know.   It felt unbelievably difficult at that time to really listen to what I wanted.   My subconscious conditioning and genetic / collective programming was so deeply attuned to caring, nurturing, making sure others needs were being met, that I had inadvertently let myself become invisible.

Obviously not literally, and at work I was thriving, achieving amazing things in my career, well exceeding my then definition of success .  I had great friendships.   But deep down, in the secret parts of me that I seldom explored let alone shared, was a fear of not being good enough,  of not being worthy to be seen,  of others being more important than me.

And it hurt.   It would percolate in the wee hours of the morning when the busyness of the day did not drown out the voice that was wanting to be heard.

I was deeply grateful when I learned that these deeply hidden voices were not actually me.  They were part of a collective history developed over thousand of years.  Embedded in the DNA.   And that part of what we were here to do collectively was transform them.   That it could be “relatively easy” (read: at times bloody challenging but with 20:20 vision so worth it; that the skills and strategies you learn to assist make it easier to transform; that it's  definitely easier and worth transforming compared to continuing living a life constrained by the old limiting beliefs and patterns).

And so I started investing in educating myself.   Somehow I realised if I wanted to be different, to be who on some soul level I knew that I was, I had to learn how to step into this Being.

I listened to the wee nudges to learn, do certain courses,  be  taught and guided by certain people, to read and be open to transform.   I’m eternally grateful I have.

I have never added up how much I have spent on growing into myself, but it would certainly be the second biggest investment I have made (aside from buying a home).

This past month alone I have invested in two courses, and in two months time head overseas for more learning.  I love it.  It stretches me into places that my subconscious survival strategies may block me from seeing.

And when I look around the community of incredible beings around me,  I can see the difference and impact it's having on the world around me.

As you reflect on your goals and intentions for the year,  I invite you to take time to think about what you really want.   Create some quiet space and imagine what your most wildly successful decade would look like.   And then ask yourself what you need to learn, transform or evolve to become the person that steps into success.

And if you find this difficult, maybe digging into what stops you dreaming and imagining this success could be a good place to start.
